The Balm Pre & Postnatal Wellbeing specialises in baby and child First Aid Training and Baby Massage Classes.

Whilst parents know the importance of learning First Aid they often find it difficult to arrange the training, without having to take time off work. Susan Patterson-Smith offers Daytime, Evening & Weekend Classes throughout South London, which caters for partners, Single Parents, Couples, Families, Grandparents, Teachers, Au pairs, Nannies, Child Minders & Childcare Practitioners. This is a refreshing alternative to the few reputable public courses located in central London.

Our Infant First Aid and Resuscitation Classes can be run at work with minimal effort on the part of the company. Arrange the location and times, promote the classes, and then leave the rest to us.

Paediatric Life Saver Course:

for Expectant Parents, Parents, Grand parents, Nannies, babysitters and carers.

Classes cover what to do if a baby or child is choking, not breathing or unconscious. You will be taught the emergency life saving techniques you’ll need if your baby or child stops breathing. Includes practice on infant-sized resuscitation mannequins.

It covers:

· Mouth to mouth resuscitation

· Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

· Recovery Position

· Choking

· Drowning

Duration: 2 hours

Essential Infant First Aid Course:

for Expectant Parents, Parents, Grand parents, Nannies, babysitters and carers.

This course will give you the
basic first aid skills to deal with:

• bleeding
• burns, scalds, electrocution
• meningitis
• febrile convulsions
• allergies and stings
• anaphylaxis
• simple fractures
• head injuries
• treatment of shock
• poisoning

Duration: 1 hour

This course is only suitable if you have completed a Lifesaver course in the last 3 years.

Paediatric Early Years First Aid Course: for Childminders, Nursery or registered Child Care Practitioners.

It covers:

· Resuscitation,

· choking

· suffocation,

· strangulation,

· breath holding, inhalation of fumes

· asthma,

· croup,

· anaphylaxis

· accident books,

· wounds,

· bleeding,

· shock,

· recognition and treatment of fractures, dislocation, strains and sprains,

· first aid kits,

· burns and scalds,

· electric shock,

· seizures,

· fainting,

· poisoning,

· head injuries,

· meningitis,

· diabetes,

· extremes of heat and cold,

Duration 12 hours

Paediatric First Aid Course:

‘STREETWISE’ First Aid Course: for Young People (aged 11 -18yrs)

This course aims to provide young people with the skills and information they need to look after themselves and others as they become increasingly independent.

It covers:

· Recognising an emergency situation and reacting appropriately

· Mouth to mouth resuscitation

· Recovery Position

· Choking

· Recognising and responding to the symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse

· Looking after someone who is bleeding (including bullet & stab wounds)

Duration: 2.5 Hours

Private Courses

An approved HSE Instructor will come to your home or chosen venue at a time that’s convenient to you - evenings, weekdays or even weekends at no extra cost. Instructors will bring all the necessary materials, handouts & equipment, including resuscitation mannequins. Everyone in the
group will have a chance to thoroughly practise their first aid skills.
